Service Description
A weekend intensive workshop featuring no scripts, no shortcuts, just longform story-telling. This 2-day intensive is designed for improvisers ready to move beyond games and into narrative long-form. Whether you have some improv experience or have been performing for years, this program will align you with an ensemble and give you the tools to build a cohesive, 20-minute improvised stor from nothing. At Instant Theatre, we teach long-form through our core framework: the 5 Ws: Who – grounded, playable characters with clear relationships Where – a defined environment that supports the story What – the action happening in the scene Why – the emotional drive and stakes behind every choice Wow – the unexpected moments that elevate the story You’ll learn how to use these in real time to create stories that feel intentional, connected, and engaging. What You’ll Work On: • Scenework and pattern work to get the group on the same page • Narrative fundamentals: story spine, arcs, and thematic cohesion • Identifying and supporting the protagonist • Building and sustaining relationships across scenes • Transitions, edits, and time tools (flashbacks, “meanwhile,” etc.) • Ensemble awareness and group storytelling Format: • May 30th & 31st from 1:00pm-7:30pm (with breaks); 2 days, 6.5 hours/day (13 hours total with optional 30min feedback session) • Small cohort (6–12 participants) for focused feedback • Taught by Instant Theatre’s Artistic Director, Jordan Wesley (learn more about Jordan on our About page) What You Get: • Individual feedback and a short written assessment (“report card”) • A 30-minute group notes session to consolidate learning • Optional performance opportunity in Instant's student showcase show "Limited Edition" on June 6th at 7:00pm at Little Mountain Gallery. This is not a drop-in class. It’s a focused, high-intensity training environment for improvisers who want to understand how longform actually works, and how to do it well. If your goal is to be part of an ensemble that can confidently build a full improvised play, this is where that process starts.
