Service Description

THE CLASS: Level 4 is where advanced improvisors begin to identify, challenge, and refine their artistic voice. This 10-week Vancouver long form improv class asks a deeper question: what kind of performer and theatre-maker are you inside the work? You will examine your default choices, natural strengths, recurring themes, rhythms, character habits, and creative avoidances. Training expands character range through point of view, contradiction, social mask, emotional truth, subtext, status, and restraint. You will also explore genre, tone, image, silence, movement, stage composition, transformation, and theatricality beyond ordinary dialogue. Artistic voice is not a fixed brand or permission to ignore the ensemble. Level 4 teaches you to make choices that feel specific to you while remaining useful to the partner, story, format, and audience. You will distinguish creative risk from self-indulgence, turn repeatable strengths into signature moves, and adapt your personal style to a coherent ensemble lens. At Instant, advanced training connects personal expression with live performance and creative community. The course includes 30 hours of instruction, two artistic-voice showcase outside class after Week 5 and week 10, and personalized written feedback for each student. Prerequisite: Level 3 Long Form Intermediate or equivalent advanced long form improv experience. THE INSTRUCTOR: Instant's own Productions Coordinator & Equity Casting Lead, Tanaz Roudgar. Tanaz (she/they) is a queer Iranian actor, writer, filmmaker with professional training from Vancouver Film School, SFU and other amazing mentors. Her creations manifest as movement art, poetry, screenwriting, and playwriting. She is based in Vancouver BC, stolen lands of Coast salish peoples. She is committed to build a relationship with and honour and uplift the voices of the lands and coast salish peoples as a direct response to colonialism. Read more about Tanaz on our Instructor's Page. THE SPACE: The KW Production Studio is located in the basement of the Vancouver's Woodward's Heritage Building located in Gas town, and consists of a large studio. There are two public accessible washrooms just outside the studio. There is one dressing room with a sink, toilet, accessible showers, and mirrors. The dressing room is lockable. There is a loading area with a loading dock at the basement level with direct access to the studios and no stairs!
