Service Description
THE CLASS: Level 3: Long Form Intermediate is advanced long form improv training for performers who want to create complete, emotionally connected stories without scripting the outcome. Across 10 weeks and 30 hours, you will learn how to protect a central story from beginning to end. Training explores status quo, inciting incident, protagonist, antagonistic force, objective, stakes, complications, escalation, turning points, climax, resolution, and denouement. You will also learn how openings create a narrative promise and how recurring characters, character webs, time shifts, location shifts, callbacks, and supporting threads can deepen a story without confusing the audience. The central challenge of Level 3 is clarity. Rather than adding more plot, you will practice cause and effect, narrative economy, emotional through lines, and satisfying change. You will learn to recognize who the story is about, what is driving it forward, why it matters, and when the ensemble should return to the central question. As part of Instant, you will train as both a storyteller and an ensemble member inside Vancouver's live performance community. The course includes 30 hours of instruction, two student showcases outside class after Week 5 and week 10, and personalized written feedback for each student. Prerequisite: Level 2 Long form Beginners or equivalent long form improv experience. THE INSTRUCTOR: Instant instructor, Zach Wolfman. Zach (he/him) is an actor, improviser, and educator living on the traditional, unceded, and ancestral territory of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations (Vancouver).
