Service Description

THE CLASS: Level 2 is for improvisors ready to move beyond individual scenes and build reliable, connected long form improv. This 10-week Vancouver improv class strengthens the craft introduced in Level 1 and teaches you how to make strong choices repeatable under performance conditions. You will learn to initiate scenes with clear 5Ws, sustain a specific character point of view, pursue active objectives, raise relationship stakes, recognize and heighten patterns, and use edits with precision. Training includes sweep edits, tap outs, cut tos, cut backs, walk-ons, callbacks, second beats, character continuity, group patterns, pacing, and ensemble support. The goal is not simply to create more material. It is to remember what has already been established, return to it with change, and help the entire long form set become more cohesive. You will practice connected formats such as New Scene / Old Scene, tap-out narratives, La Ronde, and character web montage, depending on the needs of the ensemble. At Instant, training and performance are part of the same creative community. The course includes 30 hours of instruction, two student showcases outside class after Week 5 and week 10, and personalized written feedback for each student. Prerequisite: Level 1 Introduction to Improv or equivalent introduction to improv experience. THE INSTRUCTOR: Instant's instructor Annie Rilkoff. Annie (she/her) has lived and performed improv in and around Vancouver since 2001. She has competed in the Canadian Improv Games and done improv with UBCi, Blind Tiger, Instant and is currently on the musical improv team CanonFire. She loves narrative, long-form and character driven comedy. She also loves The Simpsons, hot dogs and the New York Times Crossword. THE SPACE: The KW Atrium Studio is located next to the Woodwards Atrium space situated between the entrances of London Drugs and Nesters Market. There is a public accessible washrooms just outside the studio and direct street access to the studios with no stairs!
