Lvl 1: Intro to Improv

THE CLASS: Looking for beginner improv classes in Vancouver? Level 1 is the welcoming starting point for anyone ready to try improvisational theatre, with no previous experience required. Across 10 weeks and 30 hours of training, you will learn Instant Theatre's shared 5Ws framework: Who, Where, What, Why, and Wow. Through practical games, scene work, and long form exercises, you will build clear characters and relationships, create believable environments, accept and develop offers, discover patterns, and learn how simple choices and consequences create a story. This class is designed for curious adults who want to become more spontaneous, confident, collaborative, and comfortable performing without a script. The focus is not on being the funniest person in the room. It is on listening, making clear choices, being affected by your scene partners, and building something together. As part of Instant, you will train inside a supportive ensemble and experience the full journey from first class to live stage. The course includes 30 hours of instruction, one optional student showcases outside class after week 10, and personalized written feedback for each student. No experience required. Come ready to play, take creative risks, and discover what you can create in the moment. THE INSTRUCTOR: This class is taught by Instant's Artistic Director, Jordan Wesley. Jordan (he/him) is an improviser who has been performing and teaching in Vancouver for fifteen years. He began while studying at UBC with UBCimprov, and continued training and performing with Vancouver Theatre Sports League, Instant Theatre Company and Blind Tiger Comedy. He currently performs regularly with Vancouver’s Grad School Improv. Jordan has coached UBCimprov and CIG, as well as directing several shows a year with Grad School Improv. THE SPACE: The KW Production Studio is located in the basement of the Vancouver's Woodward's Heritage Building located in Gas town, and consists of a large studio. There are two public accessible washrooms just outside the studio. There is one dressing room with a sink, toilet, accessible showers, and mirrors. The dressing room is lockable. There is a loading area with a loading dock at the basement level with direct access to the studios and no stairs!
