Service Description

This course is designed for improvisers who are serious about long form and ready to showcase their craft. Through in-depth scene work, rich character development, and exploration of diverse formats, students will refine their technique and performance presence in front of audiences. Participants will be placed in troupes of 7–10 performers and will have the opportunity to showcase their work in 2 fully produced student showcases by Instant Theatre during the term. Whether you're working toward performing regularly or simply want to sharpen your long form artistry, this conservatory provides the structure, challenge, and support to take your improv to the next level. What You’ll Learn: -Advanced Long Form Techniques: Deepen your understanding of long form structures, pacing, and ensemble flow. -Complex Character Work: Build nuanced, fully realized characters that evolve across scenes and formats. -Performance Confidence & Range: Expand your versatility by performing in two live showcases across a variety of styles and structures. Bonus: Enrolment includes a free student pass to all Instant Theatre productions during the course term. Meet Your Instructor: Rachel Kent (She/Her), is a trained theatre actor and singer, with over 10 years experience in Improvised Comedy. She started out with “The 11 O’Clock Number!: The Improvised Musical” with Grindstone Theatre in Edmonton, Canada and is in her 3rd season with The Improv Center (formerly Vancouver Theatresports) on Granville Island, where she performs, coaches, and teaches weekly. She has trained at The Annoyance in Chicago, at Magnet Theatre in New York, and has led workshops as far away as Germany. Rachel’s passions are narrative long form, musical improv, and genre parody, but she loves showing people how to reconnect with their sense of play, remove their fear of failure, and take their skills to the next level. Accessibility: Little Mountain Gallery has varying levels of accessibility depending on the theatre space in use. Some areas are fully wheelchair accessible, while others may have limited access due to structural constraints. If you have accessibility needs, please contact us before registering so we can ensure your experience is fully supported. We’re committed to making every class welcoming and inclusive.
