Service Description

This course is designed for improvisers who are serious about long form and ready to showcase their craft. Through in-depth scene work, rich character development, and exploration of diverse formats, students will refine their technique and performance presence in front of audiences. Participants will be placed in troupes of 7–10 performers and will have the opportunity to showcase their work in 2 fully produced student showcases by Instant Theatre during the term. Whether you're working toward performing regularly or simply want to sharpen your long form artistry, this conservatory provides the structure, challenge, and support to take your improv to the next level. What You’ll Learn: -Advanced Long Form Techniques: Deepen your understanding of long form structures, pacing, and ensemble flow. -Complex Character Work: Build nuanced, fully realized characters that evolve across scenes and formats. -Performance Confidence & Range: Expand your versatility by performing in two live showcases across a variety of styles and structures. Bonus: Enrolment includes a free student pass to all Instant Theatre productions during the course term. Meet Your Instructor: Zach Wolfman (he/him) is an actor, improviser, and educator living on the traditional, unceded, and ancestral territory of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations (Vancouver). Zach has a BFA in acting and BEd from UBC. Zach has completed Canada’s national voice intensive, trained with Theatre for living, and studied clown with John Turner. Zach is a member of the Spontaneous Shakespeare company and Sin Peaks the improvised soap opera. Zach has been improvising actively since 2011 performing in improvised musicals, puppet shows, hip-hoperas, soap operas, and Shakespearean style plays. Accessibility: Little Mountain Gallery has varying levels of accessibility depending on the theatre space in use. Some areas are fully wheelchair accessible, while others may have limited access due to structural constraints.
