Service Description

Discover the foundations of improvisational theatre in this welcoming, high-energy course designed for absolute beginners. Through a series of fun and supportive exercises, you’ll explore the core principles of improv: listening, collaboration, and creative spontaneity. Learn to silence your inner critic, trust your instincts, and build scenes with confidence—all while connecting with a vibrant community of fellow improvisers. Students will be placed into troupes of 6–10, offering a consistent group environment to collaborate, experiment, and grow together. What You’ll Learn: -Trusting Your Impulses: Embrace spontaneity and release self-judgment. -Storytelling: Build compelling, imaginative narratives from scratch. -Character Creation: Bring vibrant, engaging characters to life. -Performance Skills: Explore stage presence, voice, and delivery. -Ensemble Collaboration: Develop strong communication and teamwork. -Physical Expression: Use your body to enhance storytelling and connection. -Performance: Students have the opportunity to participate in one of the opening scenes for Instant's student showcase "Limited Edition." Participation not mandatory. Bonus: Enrolment includes a free student pass to all Instant Theatre productions during the course term. Meet Your Instructor: Jordan (he/him) is an improviser who has been performing and teaching in Vancouver for fifteen years. He began while studying at UBC with UBCimprov, and continued training and performing with Vancouver Theatre Sports League, Instant Theatre Company and Blind Tiger Comedy. He currently performs regularly with Vancouver’s Grad School Improv. Jordan has coached UBCimprov and CIG, as well as directing several shows a year with Grad School Improv. Accessibility: Little Mountain Gallery has varying levels of accessibility depending on the theatre space in use. Some areas are fully wheelchair accessible, while others may have limited access due to structural constraints.
