Service Description

As improvisers, we know that the work we do can be much more than comedy, and that improvised theatre can be exciting for both performers and audiences. With his company Paper Street Theatre, Dave Morris regularly creates genre-based work. Paper Street Theatre have done improv shows in the style of John Hughes, Quentin Tarantino, Samuel Beckett, Margaret Atwood, Western, Film Noir, and so many more. Genre can often lead to structure, and structure is antithetical to improvisation. The Paper Street Method of approaching genre focuses on technique and skill, and NOT on rules and structure. This workshop will teach you how to approach genre-based work in a way that honours the mood, feel, and narrative of any style while still staying true to the principles of improvisation. Dave Morris (he/him) has been teaching improvisation for over 20 years – working with people from all walks of life. He's taught university professors, radio hosts, business owners, and even students at the prestigious MIT. His TEDx talk The Way of Improvisation has more than 300,000 views on YouTube and is used in schools around the world to introduce students to the value of improvisation.
